최근 미국 일간지 ‘USA Today’에서 엘랑코(Elanco)의 ‘세레스토’ 착용으로 1,700 마리의 반려동물이 사망했다고 보도, 국내 일부 매체와 블로그 등에서 이를 임의 해석해 전달하면서 ‘세레스토’에 대한 잘못된 정보들이 일파만파 퍼지고 있다.

이에 엘랑코는 세레스토 안전성에 대한 입장문을 발표, 엘랑코 측은 “기사에 나온 세레스토 관련 보고서는 세레스토가 원인이라고 명시한 데이터가 아니며, 반려동물의 사망 케이스와 세레스토 성분 사이에 확실한 연관이 있다는 것은 검증되지 않은 내용”이라며 “2012년부터 세레스토와 관련해 보고된 부작용 사례는 전체 판매량의 0.2% 미만이다. 또한 보고된 부작용 사례의 대부분은 홍반, 탈모와 같이 치명적이지 않은 증상이었다”고 밝혔다.

한국엘랑코 또한 “2016년부터 보고된 국내 발생은 총 32건으로 탈모 또는 피부증상이 나타났는데, 이중 14건만 ‘세레스토’ 제품과의 관련 가능성이 있는 것으로 확인됐다”고 밝혔다.

The significant majority of these incidents relate to non-serious effects such as application site disorders – reddening of the skin or hair loss below the collar.
